About Us

Larry Carter

Larry Carter’s Auto Repair is a locally owned auto repair shop in Brownsburg, Indiana and has been located on Main Street for over 20 years with over 50 years of experience. Larry started his career as a mechanic in independent shops and new car dealerships; later as Director of Education for Sun Electric Corporation followed by his own school system where he taught over 1400 professional mechanics “Advanced Diagnostics”. When the decision was made to have the SAE test for mechanic certification, Larry was commissioned by Eltra Corporation, a subsidiary of Westinghouse Corporation, to write the Tune Up/Diagnostic portion of the test. Sometimes when asked if he could pass that test, his answer was “I wrote it”!

Services

We only fix what’s broke and maintain what’s needed

  • Computer Diagnostics – most issues can be diagnosed right away.
  • Tune-up – A standard tune-up, or spark plug replacement done at the suggested maintenance interval will make an engine easier to start, improve fuel economy, lower emissions and restore lost power.
  • Brakes (brake pads/rotors) – Traction Control – We recommend that you have your brakes inspected at least once a year, or if you experience any of the following:  low or spongy brake pedal, hard brake pedal, brake warning light that stays on or squealing or grinding brakes.
  • Air Conditioning (repair and recharge) – We are equipped to check for leaks and are specially trained to repair today’s automotive air condition climate control systems.
  • Tires – New – Repair – Rotate
  • Struts & Shocks
  • Suspension – we can provide complete steering and suspension issues.
  • Steering
  • Electrical – trouble shooting and repair
  • Wheel Bearings
  • Cooling System, Radiator, Fan, Hoses, Thermostat, Heater and Water Pump – The job of your radiator is to keep coolant flowing throughout your engine.  If there’s a block or a leak, your engine can quickly overheat and your vehicle will break down.
  • Exhaust – whether you just need a clamp fixed or a replacement
Scheduled Maintenance – It is very important to maintain your vehicle in order to ensure proper running condition and to maximize the life of your vehicle.
  • Oil Changes
  • Fuel Pumps – When the flow becomes less constant, your car starts acting sluggish or just stops acting altogether.  We can diagnose all of your fuel system needs.
  • Transmission Service & Flush – The most important thing you can do is change your transmission fluid.  This is important because over time, as your transmission wears, bits of metal from the geras will contaminate the fluid.  In addition, the extreme heat generated by an automatic transmission will cause the fluid to break down.
  • Wiper/Washer Systems
  • Starting and Charging System – Starters, Batteries, Alternators – It is important to have your alternator checked regularly because it’s not always readily apparent when it fails.
  • Power Windows
  • Lighting, Turn Signals, Lamps, and Horns
  • Timing Belts – Checking your timing belt can be as hard as replacing it yourself.  Timing belts can fail without warning, so your only real protection is to change them at your car manufacturer’s recommended intervals.
  • Fluid Leak Inspection
  • Towing -  If your vehicle needs to be towed to our shop, just call us at 317-858-1403.  We can set up the tow and give you the cost.
  • And many other services

Diagnostics

Using specialized software, car diagnostic tools quickly and accurately point to problems in a car’s engine or elsewhere, thanks to built-in processors, microchips and sensors. Diagnostic tests can reveal problems within a car’s engine, transmission, exhaust system, brakes and other major components, as well as performance issues with the fuel injector, air flow and coolant, ignition coils, and throttle. A common misconception about car diagnostic tests is that technicians can use code-reading tools to determine the exact problem that triggered the check engine light. In reality, the code tells technicians which engine or component parameters are out of range but it does not detail the cause of the problems. That’s where our experience comes in as we use experience and expertise to diagnose the underlying problem. Computerized car components can detect problems long before they cause a breakdown. You don’t have to wait for the check engine light to get a car diagnostic test. If you hear or feel something “off” we can use diagnostic testing to uncover the problem.

There is no diagnostic charge if we do the repair to your vehicle.

  • Repair Time
We fix most cars the same day.  Our customers are advised of repair time and/or delays as soon as known.

  • Discounts
We offer a 5% discount for cash.  This discount is not good with other discounts.  Cash discount does not apply to tires.  Tires are already priced as low as possible.

  • Warranty
Parts & Labor warranty for 90 days or 4000 miles, whichever comes first unless otherwise stipulated.  If part has a 2 year warranty or a lifetime, part is free, you pay labor only.

  • Hours:
    Open Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 5:00 pm

My truck broke down and they where able to get right on it. I felt that the cost was extremely fair and they were very courteous and professional. I will use them again in the future.
Douglas Hatfield

They had my truck on a lift working on it immediately. Friendly staff, fair prices, and they did good work fast. I highly recommend.

I’ve had them work on my cars since moving to Indiana. Their pricing for repairs are fair and they will never try and up sell you something you don’t need. If you’re looking for a mechanic who is trustworthy and does things right the first time this is the place.
Maggie Hampton

They are always so kind and helpful! Fast service at very fair prices.

Was seen right away, good customer service & very affordable in comparison to others. Took 1⭐ off for performing a necessary repair without approval but otherwise had a great experience with them.
Ron Capuyan

SUPER honest about what I need and don’t need. Came to these guys after a horrendous trip to Firestone and they were kind, honest, and quick. Highly recommended!!
